Digital Connexion, the joint venture of Brookfield, Reliance Industries and US-based Digital Realty has unveiled an ambitious plan to invest around $11 billion over the next five years to build 1 GW of advanced, AI-native, purpose-built data centres in Visakhapatnam.

The commitment follows closely on the heels of Google’s own $15 billion project to establish its largest AI-powered data centre campus outside the United States, also in Visakhapatnam.

According to Business Standard, the Digital Connexion facilities will be developed across a 400 acre site and are designed to support the most demanding AI workloads through high-density racks, modular architecture, redundant power feeds and robust substations.

The investment announcement was formalised during the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit 2025, in the presence of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, IT and Industries Minister Nara Lokesh and Reliance Industries Executive Director PMS Prasad.

Reliance earlier noted that the new project would be fully modular, future-ready and engineered to host cutting-edge GPUs, TPUs and AI processors.

Digital Connexion said in a statement that its efforts are “aligned to India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision” and focused on building sustainable and scalable digital infrastructure incorporating renewable energy, efficient design principles and advanced cooling systems.

The JV already operates a major campus in Chennai and is expanding its footprint with a new facility in Mumbai’s Chandivali area.

Google, meanwhile, signed its agreement with the state government on 14 October.

Its upcoming AI hub, to be developed alongside partners including AdaniConneX and Airtel, will feature gigawatt-scale computing capacity supported by clean energy and subsea cable connectivity.

Speaking at the recent CII summit, Karan Adani said, “The flagship of our commitment is the Vizag tech park. We are building one of the world’s largest centres in partnership with Google. This is a combined $15 billion vision of sustainable and hi-tech growth.”
