Tesla’s extended-wheelbase six-seat pure electric SUV model – Model Y L – has sold out in the Chinese market as of October, with new orders indicating the earliest expected delivery time being November 2025.
This extended-wheelbase model was launched on Tesla China’s official website on August 19, with a starting price of 339,000 yuan. The first deliveries took place this month, having started last week.
The Model Y L features an all-wheel-drive system, achieving a range of 751 kilometers under the CLTC (China Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 201 km/h. Tesla has expanded the lateral space by 20mm at the rear of the vehicle while maintaining the same width, providing ample room for the third row.
Industry insiders believe that Tesla’s launch of the Model Y L is aimed at catering to the preferences of the Chinese market, with the goal of boosting sales. According to the latest orders, this new car has quickly become one of Tesla’s best-selling models in key overseas markets, indicating strong market demand.
Estimates in the industry suggest that orders for the Model Y L exceeded 35,000 units on the day of its launch. Although some orders may overlap with the standard Model Y, insiders point out that this six-seat extended version is expanding Tesla’s potential market, attracting consumers who need more space and seating.
