Stock index futures were steady on Tuesday morning as investors prepared for the last half day trading session before markets close for Christmas day. The Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange will open as normal 8am Eastern today before closing at 1pm and staying closed until 8am on Dec. 26.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 indexes all posted gains on Monday, even as the Conference Board’s U.S. Consumer Confidence report showed Americans are feeling more pessimistic about the state of the U.S. economy than they were last month.
Investors will now be waiting to see whether markets will see a Santa Claus rally in the final few days of 2024, with Christmas Eve, on Dec. 24, having traditionally marked the start of a six-and-a-half session long rally that runs until Jan. 3.
